Terms of use
Last updated: 6 November 2026
These terms apply to the Iris browser extension ("Iris"), provided by Tigillo Consultancy Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12211525), registered office 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, WC1N 3AX, United Kingdom. By installing or using Iris you agree to them. If you do not agree, please uninstall Iris.
1. What Iris is
Iris is a free extension for Google Chrome that converts your speech to text on your device, lets you control the browser by voice, and talks with you. Iris is an AI assistant: its answers, summaries and drafts come from an AI model running on your computer (Chrome's built-in AI). How Iris handles information is described in our Privacy Policy.
2. Your licence to use Iris
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Iris for your own lawful purposes. You may not:
- copy, modify, distribute, sell or lease Iris, except as allowed by these terms or by law;
- reverse engineer or decompile Iris, except where the law allows you to do so; or
- remove or alter any notices of ownership.
This licence covers you as an individual, and a business, charity or other organisation with revenue under £5,000,000 a year. Using Iris for a larger organisation needs a licence from us: email admin@tigillo.com. The licence for Iris's source code is in the LICENSE file that comes with it.
Iris includes open-source software and a speech recognition model provided by third parties under their own licences. Those licences, which are listed in the Open-source notices linked from Iris's welcome page, apply to those components and take priority over these terms where they differ.
3. Using Iris responsibly
- You are responsible for what Iris types and does at your instruction. Check dictated text before you send or submit it. Speech recognition makes mistakes, especially with names, technical terms, accents and background noise.
- Check before you say "confirm". Before Iris sends, posts, deletes, submits or does anything else that can't be undone, it tells you what it is about to do and waits for you to say "confirm". An action you confirm is your own. If you turn Safety checks off in Settings, Iris no longer asks, and you accept that it acts without asking. Iris never types passwords or card details.
- Do not rely on Iris where a mistake could cause harm, for example medical, legal, financial or emergency communications, or any situation where accurate wording is critical.
- AI can make mistakes. Iris's answers in conversation, about web pages and from searches may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Iris says so when you ask about health, law, money or safety, but you should check anything important with a qualified professional or an official source. In an emergency, call your local emergency number (999 in the UK); do not rely on Iris.
- Always listening uses your microphone continuously while it is turned on. Do not use it in a way that breaks the law or other people's reasonable expectations of privacy. Iris does not record or keep audio, but other people nearby may not know the microphone is in use.
- Iris is an aid, not a substitute for a screen reader or other assistive technology. The AI assistant can misunderstand you or a web page; it announces each step and asks you to confirm important actions, but you remain responsible for what it does at your request.
- Voice commands can close tabs. Iris closes one tab per command and can reopen it ("Hey Iris, undo"), but unsaved work in a closed page may be lost.
4. Changes and availability
We may update Iris, change or remove features, or stop providing it. Updates are delivered through the Chrome Web Store. We will try to give notice of significant changes in the release notes.
5. Our responsibility to you
Iris is provided free of charge and "as is". We do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or accurate, or that it will meet your particular needs.
These terms do not exclude or limit any liability that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit, and they do not affect your statutory rights.
Subject to the paragraph above, we are not responsible for:
- losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using Iris;
- the result of anything you asked Iris to do or confirmed, such as a message sent, a form submitted or something deleted;
- loss of data or unsaved work, including in tabs closed at your voice command;
- any business, commercial or professional loss; or
- the content, availability or practices of third-party websites or services you open or search through Iris.
Subject to the same paragraph, our total liability to you in connection with Iris is limited to the greater of £5 and the licence fees you paid us for Iris in the 12 months before the claim.
6. Ending these terms
You can stop using Iris at any time by uninstalling it. We may end your licence if you seriously breach these terms. Sections 5 and 7 continue to apply after the licence ends.
7. General
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts. If you live in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country.
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- We may update these terms. We will post the new version with a new "last updated" date; if a change is significant we will say so in the release notes. Continuing to use Iris after a change means you accept it.
- No one other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.
